Aquaponics isn't hydroponics โ€” here's the difference

Both grow plants without soil, but that's where the similarity ends. Hydroponics feeds plants with man-made liquid nutrient solutions that need to be mixed, dosed and replaced by hand. Aquaponics goes a step further: fish in a tank produce waste, naturally occurring bacteria (and worms, in our systems) convert that waste into plant fertiliser, and the plants filter and clean the water before it's pumped back to the fish โ€” a living, closed-loop ecosystem that runs on biology instead of bottled chemicals.

Fish do the fertilising

Their waste is the entire nutrient source โ€” no nutrient solutions to buy, mix or dispose of.

A self-sustaining cycle

Plants clean the water for the fish, the fish feed the plants โ€” each part of the system supports the other, with far less waste than traditional farming.

Curious about hydroponics too? We teach and build both. Our enrichment courses and farm experiences cover hydroponics methods (including simple passive Kratky setups), and our build-to-order service designs hydroponic systems as well as aquaponic ones โ€” so you can learn, compare and choose what fits your space.

Our Story

Founded by two doctors who believe wellness grows from the ground up

Dr. Lim Jia Yang has been refining micro-farming and aquaponics solutions for Singapore homes since 2015. Dr. Wang Fei Fan, an ENT specialist, champions the idea that "wellness extends beyond physical health to include mental well-being." Together, they built Two Doctors Aquaponics on a simple belief: growing your own food โ€” even a little of it โ€” grows healthier, happier lives.

Closed-loop, chemical-free

Fish and plants work together in a self-sustaining cycle โ€” no synthetic fertilisers, no waste.

Health-first philosophy

Every course, tour and build is designed around one goal: helping people live healthier, more connected lives.

Frequently Asked Questions

Good to know before you reach out

What is aquaponics, and how is it different from hydroponics?

Aquaponics is a closed-loop way of growing food that combines fish farming (aquaculture) with soil-less plant growing (hydroponics). Fish produce waste, naturally occurring bacteria and worms convert that waste into nutrients, and the plants absorb those nutrients while filtering and cleaning the water โ€” which is then pumped back to the fish. Hydroponics on its own still relies on man-made liquid nutrient solutions; aquaponics replaces those bottled chemicals with a living ecosystem, so nothing goes to waste. See the full breakdown above โ†‘.

How do I book a course, tour or experience?

The fastest way is to message us directly on WhatsApp at +65 9299 6898 โ€” just tap any "WhatsApp Us" button on this site. Let us know your preferred dates, group size and what you're interested in, and we'll help you plan from there.

Are your programmes suitable for young children?

Yes โ€” our enrichment courses and farm experiences are designed to be hands-on and age-appropriate for both children and adults, including school groups, families and corporate teams.

Do you teach hydroponics as well as aquaponics?

Yes. While our farms run on aquaponics, our enrichment courses and farm experiences also cover hydroponics โ€” the soil-less, water-based growing method โ€” including simple passive setups like the Kratky method that are perfect for learning at home. It's a great way to understand both approaches side by side and decide which suits your space.

Are these outdoor farm activities?

Yes โ€” our tours, experiences and many of our courses take place at our working outdoor farm at 2 Kallang Avenue, with sheltered and air-conditioned spaces on hand for sun or rain. It's hands-on, open-air learning: feed the fish, harvest greens, and get close to real growing systems.

Can you design an aquaponics or hydroponics system for my home or office?

Absolutely. Build-to-order is one of our core offerings โ€” from compact AquaFrame units for small spaces to full custom aquaponics or hydroponics installations. Share your space, goals and budget on WhatsApp and we'll propose a design.

Where are your farms located?

Our base is at 2 Kallang Avenue #03-08, Singapore 339407, and we also manage and showcase several partner farm installations across Singapore. We'll confirm the exact tour or pick-up location when you book.

Do you sell farming supplies as well?

Yes โ€” sustainable supplies such as K1 filter media, compost worms, vermicompost, pipes, seeds and seedlings are available via our Shopee store, linked in the footer of every page.
